Grant Prideco, National Oilwell to give DOJ time to review deal

Feb 7 (Reuters) - Grant Prideco Inc GRP.N and National Oilwell Varco Inc (NOV.N) agreed with the U.S. Department of Justice to voluntarily provide the DOJ with more time to review the proposed merger of the two companies, a regulatory filing showed.

After an informal discussion with the DOJ staff, National Oilwell withdrew and refiled its pre-merger notification under U.S. antitrust laws, Grant Prideco said in a regulatory disclosure with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In December, 2007, oil and gas service company National Oilwell had said it would buy its peer Grant Prideco for about $7 billion. (Reporting by Sayantani Ghosh in Bangalore; Editing by Pratish Narayanan)
