UPDATE 1-Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

Sept 2 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 0900 GMT on Tuesday.

    ** State-owned Korea Development Bank (KDB) confirmed that it was in talks with Lehman Brothers LEH.N for a possible investment in the troubled U.S. bank, but other reports said the price of the deal remained an issue. To read more, please double click on [ID:nSEO69191]

    ** The world’s third biggest platinum producer Lonmin (LMI.L) said a merger with Xstrata XTA.L would lead to major synergy benefits and the firm would like to hold talks with its hostile suitor if a formal bid is made at a higher level. [ID:nL2149855]

    ** French utility group GDF Suez GSZ.PA said it would buy U.S. electricity provider FirstLight Power Enterprises. GDF gave no financial details in a statement, but according to industry sources quoted by Le Figaro newspaper the deal would be worth 1.3 billion euros ($1.91 billion).
