Vulcan Materials settles contamination case

Oct 12 (Reuters) - Vulcan Materials Co (VMC.N), which makes highway construction materials, said it has reached a settlement with Modesto, California for alleged contamination from a dry cleaning compound.

The company said it will recognize a related charge to discontinued operations of about 9 cents a share in the third quarter.

The dry cleaning compound, perchloroethylene, was produced by the company's former chloralkali chemicals business unit, which was divested in June 2005. (Reporting by Manish Gupta in Bangalore)
