Feb 5 (Reuters) - Telecoms equipment maker JDS Uniphase Corp JDSU.O posted quarterly results above Wall Street estimates and shares rose more than 16 percent in after-hours trading.
For the second quarter, net income fell to $21.2 million, or 9 cents a share, from $23.2 million, or 10 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, the company earned 22 cents a share and revenue rose 9 percent to $399.2 million.
The company said revenue from its communications test and measurement segment rose 14 percent sequentially and represented 49 percent of the total quarterly non-GAAP net revenue.
Analysts on average expected the company to earn 12 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $386.2 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
For the third quarter, the maker of fibre optics components expects non-GAAP net revenue of $380 million to $402 million.
Analysts on average expect revenue of $387.9 million for the quarter.
