Bear Stearns shareholder discloses 6.66 pct stake in co

April 9 (Reuters) - Bear Stearns Cos Inc BSC.N shareholder Vanguard Windsor II Fund disclosed a 6.66 percent passive stake in the investment bank, which is being acquired by JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N).

Vanguard Windsor II Fund said the stake gives it ownership and sole voting power of about 7.9 million shares of Bear Stearns, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Vanguard Windsor II Fund said it has held Bear Stearns stock in excess of 5 percent since December 2007, but had inadvertently failed to file with regulators by the required deadline. (Reporting by Shivani Singh in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
