UPDATE 3-Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

Jan 8 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 2100 GMT on Tuesday.

** South Korea’s Dongkuk Steel (001230.KS) said it may seek a consortium with other steel makers to buy Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (042660.KS), which has a market value of $9.4 billion. To read more, please double click on [nSEO247841]

** The bidders for Swedish security services firm Securitas Direct SDIRb.ST said they had extended the acceptance period for their $1.5 billion offer to Feb. 1 from the beginning of January. [nL08510402]

** Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) bid $1.2 billion to buy Norwegian business search software company Fast Search & Transfer FASA.OL in a deal focused on helping corporations manage and sift through their own files, a growing market also targeted by Google Inc (GOOG.O). [nL08611544]

** China Eastern Airlines (0670.HK) shareholders rejected a deal to sell a 24 percent stake to Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI) for US$920 million, opening the door for bigger rival Air China (0753.HK) to make a play for the country’s third-largest carrier. [nHKG244885]

** Spanish builder ACS (ACS.MC) said it had bought another 4.83 percent of utility Union Fenosa UNF.MC for 655 million euros ($962.9 million), but the company denied it was planning a full takeover bid. [nL08216344]

** Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (MAHM.BO) said it has sold 2 percent stake in its unit, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd, for 800 million rupees to State Bank of India (SBI.BO). [nBMB000370]

** Singapore’s Healthway Medical Services is set to list in the city-state via a reverse takeover of loss-making electronics distributor SNF SNFC.SI for up to S$525 million ($365.9 million). [nSIN138690]

** Mining equipment maker Joy Global Inc JOYG.O said it agreed to buy Continental Global Inc, the maker of engineered conveyor equipment, from NES Group Inc for about $270 million to expand its range of products. [nBNG147947]

** MDU Resources Group Inc (MDU.N) said it signed a purchase agreement to buy natural gas properties in Rusk County, Texas, from EnerVest Ltd for $235 million. [nWNAS5885]

** Petrohawk Energy Corp (HK.N) said it agreed to acquire additional acreage in Fayetteville Shale Trend from a private seller for $222.5 million. [nWNAS5891]

** MutualFirst Financial Inc (MFSF.O) said it agreed to acquire MFB Corp MFBC.O, the parent of MFB Financial, for about $47 million in a cash-and-stock deal, expanding its presence in Indiana. [nBNG158859]

** French wind power company Theolia TEO.PA said it had finalised the acquisition of Morocco’s Compagnie Eolienne du Detroit (CED) for 42.5 million euros ($62.48 million). [nL08670582]
