UPDATE 1-Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

Oct 14 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 0900 GMT on Tuesday. (For Reuters columns on deals, click on [DEALTALK\] )

** India’s Ranbaxy Laboratories RANB.BO, which has agreed to be taken over by Japan’s Daiichi Sankyo (4568.T) for $4.6 billion, expects to close the deal by the end of December, its chief executive said.

** JP Morgan (JPM.N) has taken an equity stake in the Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME), the market said in a statement. [ID:nLE715782]

** South Korea’s POSCO (005490.KS) said it would go ahead with bidding for Daewoo Shipbuilding (042660.KS) after consortium partner GS Group suddenly dropped out of the contest on Monday. [nSEO219539]
