UPDATE 3-Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

Feb 23 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 2100 GMT on Monday.

** Medtronic Inc (MDT.N) said it is buying two privately held heart valve companies, including CoreValve Inc, a major player in the relatively new market for less-invasive valve replacement.

** Fertilizer maker CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF.N) formally launched its hostile bid to buy rival Terra Industries Inc TRA.N and said it was still interested in holding talks with Terra to seal a deal. [ID:nN23347056]

** Swedish energy group Vattenfall said it will buy the production and supply arm of Dutch utility Nuon for 10.3 billion euros ($13.3 billion), creating Europe’s largest producer of offshore wind power. [ID:nLN321481]

** Nova Chemicals Corp NCX.N NCX.TO said that it agreed to be bought by International Petroleum Investment Company in a deal which valued it at about $2.3 billion including debt. [ID:nN23331724]

** German truck manufacturer MAN AG (MANG.DE) has successfully closed a 2 billion euro ($2.59 billion) loan backing its acquisition of Volkswagen’s (VOWG.DE) Brazilian truck and bus business, co-ordinating banks Commerzbank and WestLB announced. [ID:nLN511772]

** Bill Gates raised his stake in Republic Services Inc (RSG.N) to 13.7 percent from 12.6 percent, a SEC filing showed. Bill Gates Stake in Republic Services represents about 52 million shares. [ID:nWNAB5467]

** Amicas Inc AMCS.O, a provider of healthcare IT services, said it would buy smaller rival Emageon Inc EMAG.O for $1.82 a share, or about $39 million, in cash. [ID:nBNG220766]

** Anheuser-Busch InBev INTB.BR, the world’s largest brewer, said it had agreed the sale of InBev USA, the U.S. distributor of Canadian beer Labatt, to an affiliate of private equity firm KPS Capital Partners. [ID:nLN356420]

** Loss-making Scandinavian airline SAS (SAS.ST) said it was in discussions with ISS regarding a possible takeover of the airline’s SGS ground service unit in Finland. [ID:nSAT006091]

** Germany’s Merck KGaA (MRCG.DE) agreed to buy MediCult MEDC.OL for 383 million Norwegian crowns ($55.1 million) to boost its fertility treatment business, trumping a rival offer. [ID:nLN374205]

** Italy’s leading insurer Generali will make an all-share offer for the other half of Alleanza it does not already own in a long-awaited deal that takes advantage of low stock prices and brings synergies. [ID:nLN371232]

** Polish builder PBG (PBGG.WA) is ready to discuss with Polimex MOSD.WA the sale of its Hydrobudowa HBWL.WA unit in return for a large stake in the local rival, a PBG official said. [ID:nLN666619]

** Orascom Telecom ORTE.CA ORTEq.L, the largest Arab telecom firm by subscribers, said it was studying an offer for two of its information technology subsidiaries, to increase focus on its core mobile business. [ID:nLM76936]

** Qatar Telecommunications Co QTEL.QA (Qtel) said it would own 65 percent of Indonesia’s PT Indosat (ISAT.JK) after completing a tender offer on Feb. 18 to buy additional shares in the company from the public. [ID:nLM25775]
