Oct 8 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 1600 GMT on Wednesday. (For Reuters columns on deals, click on [DEALTALK\] )

** Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA.AX) has agreed to buy British bank HBOS’s HBOS.L Australian unit BankWest for A$2.1 billion ($1.5 billion), below book value, to boost its market share in fast-growing Western Australia, the bank said.

** India’s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (TCS.BO) said it would acquire Citigroup Inc’s (C.N) back-office unit in India for about $505 million in cash, as the U.S. financial giant sheds assets outside its main businesses. [ID:nBOM362156]

** Symantec Corp (SYMC.O), the No. 1 security software maker, plans to expand its Internet services business by acquiring online messaging and Web security services provider MessageLabs for $695 million. [ID:nN08510787]

** ING Direct, the online banking arm of ING Group ING.AS, said it is acquiring more than 3 billion pounds ($5.3 billion) worth of British deposits from Icelandic online savings providers icesave and Kaupthing Edge. [ID:nL884680]

** Computer security company Symantec Corp (SYMC.O) said it has agreed to buy MessageLabs, a provider of online messaging and Web security services, for about $695 million in cash. [ID:nN08510787]

** Oil and gas exploration company Denbury Resources Inc (DNR.N) said it shelved its $600 million Conroe Field acquisition due to turbulent capital markets, even as it enhanced its bank credit line and trimmed its 2009 capital budget to preserve liquidity. [ID:nBNG92547]

** Icelandic bank Glitnir GLB.IC said it would sell its holding in its Swedish daughter company. [ID: nSAT005677]

** Gerber Scientific Inc GRB.N, a supplier of automated manufacturing systems, reaffirmed its offer to acquire all outstanding shares of Canadian Virtek Vision International Inc VRK.TO for C$35.1 million ($31.67 million) in cash. [ID:nBNG170207]
