** German chemicals group Altana ALTG.DE is in talks with U.S. private equity firm KKR to buy its stake in specialty chemicals firm Rockwood Holdings ROC.N as part of a 4 billion euro ($6.2 billion) takeover, a magazine reported.

** Atari Inc ATAR.O said that majority shareholder Infogrames Entertainment IFOE.PA has said it wants to buy the rest of the company for $1.68 per share. [nWEN4376]

** Gadair European Airlines is putting the final touches to a 500 million euro ($770 million) bid for SAS’s (SAS.ST) Spanish airline Spanair, Barcelona-based newspaper El Periodico de Catalunya said. [nL07211500]

** British drinks giant Diageo (DGE.L) and Dutch brewer Heineken (HEIN.AS) agreed to strengthen their ties in South Africa and take on dominant domestic brewer SABMiller SAB.L by building a brewery there by end-2009. [nL07700291]

** Chinese state-controlled Sinopec Group has agreed to buy a majority stake in assets of troubled oil producer AED Oil Ltd AED.AX for A$600 million ($556 million), marking China’s first oil acquisition in resource-rich Australia. [nSYD164715]

** Brazil’s biggest private bank, Bradesco (BBDC4.SA)(BBD.N), said it would buy the country’s top brokerage, Agora, in an all-stock transaction worth about 830 million reais ($494 million). [nN06250181]

** Citigroup (C.N) Chief Executive Vikram Pandit denied the financial group may put its South Korean unit up for sale, a Citibank source said, although the U.S. bank is shedding peripheral units. [nSEO256149]

** Borse Dubai could seek a 40 percent stake in the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), when Pakistan’s biggest bourse becomes a shareholder firm, a newspaper reported. [nL07331122]

** Malaysia’s Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) (MBBM.KL) confirmed its interest in buying an indirect stake in Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII) (BNII.JK), Indonesia’s sixth-biggest lender. [nKLR301507]

** Irish business services group DCC Plc DCC.I (DCC.L) said it had bought British oil distributor Southern Counties Fuels Holdings Ltd (SCFH) for 9.75 million euros ($15.02 million) in cash. [nL07396213]
