SEOUL, Nov 13 (Reuters) - GM Daewoo Automotive and Technology Co, a South Korean unit of General Motors (GM.N: Cotización), plans to halt production for up to 45 days after a sharp drop in overseas shipments, the Maeil business newspaper reported.

GM Daewoo's vice president Josef Edlinger was quoted as saying its three local plants will suspend manufacturing cars intermittently until March, depending on how overseas demand fares.

The report also said that South Korea's No.3 auto maker will delay the launch of two new cars by one year to 2010.

A GM Daewoo spokesman said he was not able to confirm the report.

The global automobile industry has been struggling with shrinking sales due to the financial crisis.

GM and other U.S. automakers have been lobbying the U.S. government for $25 billion in loans to shore up their battered balance sheets. (Reporting by Seo Eun-kyung; Editing by Lincoln Feast)
