April 9 (Reuters) - Bear Stearns Cos Inc BSC.N shareholder Vanguard Windsor II Fund disclosed a 6.66 percent passive stake in the investment bank, which is being acquired by JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N: Cotización).

Vanguard Windsor II Fund said the stake gives it ownership and sole voting power of about 7.9 million shares of Bear Stearns, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Vanguard Windsor II Fund said it has held Bear Stearns stock in excess of 5 percent since December 2007, but had inadvertently failed to file with regulators by the required deadline. (Reporting by Shivani Singh in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
