** Technology giant Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Cotización) said that it had offered to acquire Internet media company Yahoo Inc YHOO.O for $44.6 billion in cash and stock.

** China's biggest aluminium producer teamed up with U.S. group Alcoa (AA.N: Cotización) to buy a 12 percent stake in Rio Tinto (RIO.L: Cotización) on Friday, threatening miner BHP Billiton's (BLT.L: Cotización) efforts to win Rio.
